asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the result of his investigations into motor insurance; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.
I am not quite clear as to which investigations the Deputy is referring. The Insurance Industry Committee have already submitted an interim report on motor insurance and I have just received the committee's final report which deals with insurance in general and which I intend to publish before the end of April. In the meantime it is under examination in my Department.
One of the results of the interim report to which I have referred was the establishment of the Motor Premiums Advisory Committee whose recommendations led to a more realistic premium and loading structure and general availability of motor insurance. That committee are now involved in the task of collecting statistics which will lead ultimately to the determination of premium rates on a scientific basis and therefore to a premium structure which is fair to all policyholders and groups of policyholders. This task is likely to take a considerable time.
