Vol. 289 No. 6

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

53.

asked the Minister for Education if he will now arrange to have school transport provided from Clonbonniffee, Belmont, County Offaly, to High Street national school, Belmont, as there are 13 children involved.

Under the terms of the schools transport scheme, a minimum of ten eligible children is required to warrant the introduction of a special transport service from a particular locality. There are ten children in the general area concerned in the question who are eligible for free transport to school, but since seven of these reside in the area of Clonlyon closed school, it is only open to the Department to provide them with free transport to Clonmacnoise central school, into which Clonlyon national school was amalgamated. It is not possible to provide free transport to High Street national school for the remaining three children.
