asked the Minister for Finance if he received proposals for the provision of an underground car park at Saint Stephen's Green, Dublin, at any time; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Underground Car Park.
31.
A proposal put forward in 1964 for the construction of an underground car park at Saint Stephen's Green was rejected by the Commisisoners of Public Works on the grounds that such a development would seriously interfere with the amenities of the Green which the commissioners are under a statutory obligation to preserve.
Legal advice obtained by the commisisoners indicated that any scheme for a car park in the Green would conflict with the terms of the Saint Stephen's Green Act, 1877.
No further consideration has been given to the proposal.
