Vol. 291 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ground Rents.

34.

asked the Minister for Finance if ground rents are paid on Leinster House and the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dublin; to whom such rents are paid; and the amount involved.

There are no ground rents payable in respect of Leinster House or the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham.

When did we cease to pay?

Leinster House was vested in the Commissioners of Public Works under an Act of 1877 and it was then free of ground rent. There was ground rent payable in respect of Leinster Lawn until November, 1973 but the State acquired that by a conveyance of 1st November, 1973. The position in relation to the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, is that it was vested in the Minister for Finance under the Royal Hospital (Kilmainham) Act, 1962.

Would the Minister care to say when the long promised legislation on ground rents will be introduced?

That is a separate question.

Is Leinster House vested in the Commissioners of Public Works in fee simple?
