Vol. 291 No. 15

Written Answers. - Industrial Employment in North-Eastern Region.

57.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the Regional Development Organisation report concerning the job loss in industrial employment in the north-eastern region; and the steps he proposes to take to remedy the matter.

I am aware of the report to which the Deputy refers.

The Industrial Development Authority have informed me that they are giving priority to many parts of the region in their industrial promotional activities with a view to securing further industrial development. The authority already have facilities such as industrial sites and factories in a number of areas of the region and these facilities are being vigorously promoted. Certain projects already approved or which have commenced with IDA grant assistance will be building up to their full employment potential over the next few years. The authority are also in negotiation with a number of industrialists who are interested in locating projects in various parts of the region.
