Vol. 293 No. 6

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

101.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when an appeals officer will decide on the claim for unemployment assistance by a person (name supplied) in County Kildare.

Arrangements have been made to have the appeal of the person concerned against the deciding officer's assessment of means in his case listed for oral hearing at an early date. He will be notified of the date, venue and time of the hearing at which it will be open to him to attend and give evidence on his own behalf.

102.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be reached on the application for increased unemployment assistance by a person (name supplied) in County Cork.

A decision was given by a deciding officer and subsequently on appeal, by an appeals officer in the case of the person concerned. In view of the representations made by the Deputy, however, arrangements are being made to have the case re-examined at an oral hearing before an appeals officer. The applicant will be able to attend and give evidence on his own behalf. He will be notified as soon as possible of the place, date and time of the hearing.

103.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state why unemployment assistance has not been paid to a person (details supplied) in County Laois since 5th October, 1976, in view of the fact that he is fully qualified.

Payment of unemployment assistance to the person concerned was suspended by the local office on the understanding that he was qualified for the receipt of unemployment benefit. As it subsequently transpired that further inquiries about his entitlement to unemployment benefit were necessary, payment of unemployment assistance was restored to him. All arrears of unemployment assistance due have now been paid to him and further payments will continue as they fall due pending a decision on his entitlement to unemployment benefit.
