Vol. 293 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Disputes.

31.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of man days lost as a result of industrial disputes in the years 1974, 1975 and to date in 1976.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows: 1974, 551,833; 1975, 295,716. Provisional estimates produced in my Department indicate that over 600,000 man days may have been lost to date this year.

32.

asked the Minister for Labour the cost to date in his Department of the monitoring unit set up to provide early warning of industrial disputes; and the number of reports prepared by this unit.

It is not possible to separate the costs of the monitoring unit from the overall cost of administration of the Department of Labour. If the Deputy requires the wage costs involved I can let him have the grades of the people employed there who receive the same salary as persons of an analogous grade in the civil service generally.

The number of written reports prepared by the unit to date is 453.
