Vol. 296 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmer's Dole.

13.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make a statement concerning payment of farmer's dole to a person (name supplied) in County Limerick who had his payments reduced without any reason being given.

Payment of unemployment assistance was made to the person concerned up to 13th July, 1976 at the weekly rates applicable to a landholder residing in a specified area whose land valuation was £16 and who had a dependent wife and three dependent children.

Following investigation of his means by a social welfare officer, as a result of which it came to light that the full rateable valuation of his holdings was £22 and that he also had capital which had not been disclosed, a deciding officer reassessed his weekly means at increased rates with effect from 5th December, 1974 and revoked his entitlement to a qualification certificate from 31st March, 1976 on the ground that his means exceeded the statutory limit applicable in his case from that date. The applicant was notified of this decision and of his right of appeal to an appeals officer if dissatisfied but no appeal has so far been received. As a result of the deciding officer's revised assessments of means in his case the applicant received payment of unemployment assistance to which he was not entitled. The amount involved is recoverable from him.
