Vol. 299 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in deciding on an application for unemployment assistance from a person (name supplied) in Wicklow who has signed for over 12 weeks.

The person concerned made a claim for unemployment assistance on 4th March, 1977, when his claim for unemployment benefit of 14th February, 1977, had been disallowed because he did not satisfy the contribution conditions. It then became necessary to make the usual inquiries into his circumstances. These inquiries have now been completed and unemployment assistance has been awarded to him from the date of his claim for unemployment benefit. Arrangements have been made to have the unemployment assistance due paid during the current week and further payments will continue as they fall due.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment benefit will be paid to a person (name supplied) in County Wicklow who is signing for 12 weeks.

Certain inquiries which have been regrettably protracted have had to be made in connection with the claim for unemployment benefit of the person concerned. Every effort is being made to have these inquiries completed and a decision given in the case without further delay.
