Vol. 299 No. 11

Written Answers. - Housing of Itinerants.

42.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of dwellings which will be provided for itinerant families by local authorities or private organisations this year.

It is expected that approximately 60 dwellings will be provided this year by local authorities under the special subsidy scheme for settlement of itinerant families. I do not have information as to the number of houses likely to be allocated to itinerant families in the course of the normal housing programmes of local authorities but the annual rate exceeds 100 and I have asked local authorities to step up their activities in this regard.

I would hope, therefore, that the total number of dwellings to be provided by local authorities for itinerant families in the year would approach 200. No figures are available with regard to the plans of private organisations in the matter during 1977.
