Vol. 301 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Maternity Leave.

31.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in detail in relation to each semi-State body associated with his Department, what arrangements, if any, exist for the provision of paid maternity leave for their employees; and, in the case of any which do not have such arrangements, the steps he proposes to take to see that such arrangements are made.

The question of the introduction or improvement in arrangements for paid maternity leave is a matter in the first instance for negotiation between the body concerned and its staff in accordance with normal procedures.

The present position in relation to maternity leave for staffs of the following semi-State bodies which are associated with my Department and in respect of which I have relevant ministerial responsibility is that civil service arrangements apply where the case arises: An Chomhairle Leabharlanna, An Bord Pleanala, The National Road Safety Association, Local Government Staff Negotiations Board, Local Government Computer Services Board.
