Vol. 301 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Education.

27.

asked the Minister for Education the number of hours per week devoted to health education at (a) primary and (b) secondary school level; and what form this course of instruction takes.

It is not feasible to estimate in terms of hours per week the time devoted to health education in primary and secondary schools.

The curriculum in operation in primary schools allows of health education being integrated into all sections of the curriculum, so that the cultivation of good health habits and high standards of hygiene may be promoted.

In the case of second-level schools, health education is specified as one of the sections of the syllabus in physical education and different aspects of the matter are treated also in the syllabi for civics, biology and home economics.
