Vol. 302 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prison Rules and Regulations.

48.

asked the Minister for Justice if a complete copy of the rules and regulations are made available as a matter of routine to each prisoner on admission.

The Prison Rules provide that abstracts, approved by the Minister for Justice, of the regulations relating to the treatment and conduct of prisoners are to be posted in each cell. In practice this rule proved to be inoperable because prisoners tended to destroy the notices. The general practice now is to have the abstracts displayed in places where they can easily be read by the prisoners or detainees.
