Vol. 302 No. 8

Written Answers. - Limerick NIHE Dispute.

212.

asked the Minister for Education the reasons for the dispute between the staff and the governing body of the NIHE, Limerick which is affecting the setting and correcting of examination papers for the Christmas examination at the institute; and if he will make a comprehensive statement on the matter.

The Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staff—ASTMS— have advised the Governing Body of the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick that their members who are on the academic staff of the institute will not participate in student assessments until an "acceptable offer", of payment, is made for invigilation and marking of scripts.

A pay claim in the matter is being considered at present by the Higher Education Authority and the Departments of Education and the Public Service, in consultation with the Governing Body of the institute. Pending a decision on the claim, the Governing Body have deferred the Michaelmas assessments to the first week of the Hilary term.
