The statistics requested by the Deputy are not prepared by my Department or by any of the agencies for which I am responsible. However, I have seen estimates prepared by the United States Department of Commerce which indicated that the average percentage return on parent company investments by US firms in EEC countries in the year ended 31st December, 1976, was 8 per cent in Benelux and France, 12 per cent in Denmark, 20 per cent in Germany, 24 per cent in Ireland, 10 per cent in Italy, 19 per cent in the Netherlands and 6 per cent in the United Kingdom.
