Vol. 303 No. 1

Written Answers. - Parking of Vehicles.

369.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in relation to the parking of vehicles on public roadways and footpaths in the course of the business of dealing in and repairing cars, he has consulted with any public authorities or with residents associations or has received any representations on such matters; and if he will, in consultation with the Minister for Justice, address an appeal to local authorities and the gardaí to take action to stop the parking of vehicles in public places by persons in the course of carrying on the business of sales and repairs of motor vehicles; and, if not, why.

As I indicated in my reply of 9 November last to a related question by the Deputy, the enforcement of parking restrictions is a matter for the Garda Síochána, who have the necessary powers to deal with any offences of this nature. I have not therefore initiated consultation with public authorities or residents associations on the matter. Representations received in my Department from two sources in 1975 and 1976 were brought to the attention of the appropriate authorities.
