Vol. 303 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Related Pension Scheme.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of submissions which his Department have received on the introduction of a national income-related pension scheme; from whom the submissions were received; if a closing date has been set for submissions; and if a time-table has been established for the introduction of the scheme.

To date a total of 64 submissions have been received from interested organisations and individuals relating to the question of a national income-related pension scheme. In addition, I understand that a number of organisations are to make submissions shortly. As it was stated at the outset that all submissions would be treated in confidence, it would not be appropriate for me to disclose the identity of those from whom submissions were received. I will shortly be announcing a closing date for the recipt of submissions and when all submissions have been considered I will put appropriate proposals before the Government.

Would the Minister ensure that we have as widespread a number of submissions as possible? Would he make an announcement well in advance of the closing date in order to encourage more people to make submissions?

I will do that.
