Vol. 303 No. 3

Written Answers. - Post-Doctoral Fellowship Scheme.

212.

asked the Minister for Education why post-doctoral fellowships in science and engineering awarded by the Department of Education at UCD, UCC, UCG, TCD, the IIRS and the Agricultural Institute are not allowed by the Department to be held at the College of Technology, Kevin Street, Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The post-doctoral fellowship scheme was introduced in 1967 as a result of recommendations made by a working party of the science policy advisory committee. It provides that the fellowships are tenable at any one of the following institutions:—University College, Dublin; University College, Cork; University College, Galway; Trinity College, Dublin; An Foras Talúntais; Institute for Industrial Research and Standards.

Since the fellowships are not tenable in accordance with the terms of the scheme at institutions other than the foregoing they may not be held at the College of Technology, Kevin Street, Dublin.

I am not satisfied that an alteration in the terms of the scheme in relation to the institutions at which the fellowships are tenable is called for at this time.
