Research into the cause of sudden death on non-specific cause in infancy is at present being carried out by the Department of Community Health in Trinity College, Dublin. I intend to ask the Medico-Social Research Board to assess the feasibility and need for carrying out further research into the incidence and causes of such deaths.
Is the Minister prepared to make any funds available to the medical bodies who are carrying out research into the causes of sudden deaths in infants?
