Vol. 303 No. 7

Written Answers. - French Lamb and Sheep Policy.

288.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if the proceedings initiated last year against France before the European Court of Justice because of its policy in the lamb and sheep meat sector, have now been abandoned by the Government.

In the light of the opening up of the French market to Irish sheepmeat as from 1 January 1978 the Government on 25 January informed the Court of Justice of the European Communities in accordance with Article 78 of the Rules of Procedure of the Court that they wished to discontinue the proceedings against France and requested the court to order that the case be removed from the register. The court has not yet given its decision on this request.
