I cannot as yet say when work might commence on this scheme, contract documents for which are under consideration in my Department.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the Athgoe/Castlewarden, County Dublin water supply scheme; and if he is in a position to say when work will commence on this scheme.
It is a matter for the local authority to make arrangements for the commencement of work on this scheme which I understand the council intend to carry out by direct labour and for which I approved working drawings on the 18 January last.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in respect of the Castlebar, County Mayo regional water scheme (i) the date on which plans were first submitted (ii) the date on which final acceptable plans were submitted, (iii) the date on which financial sanction was approved (iv) when it is hoped to put the scheme to tender, and (v) the amount of money to be allocated to the project during 1978.
The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:
(1) The Preliminary Report for Castlebar (Lough Mask) Regional Water Supply Scheme was submitted to my Department in December 1974 and approved in September 1975.
(2) Contract documents for the civil works were submitted in September 1977 and approved on 16 January 1978 subject to some minor revision. Contract documents have yet to be submitted for the treatment and pumping plant.
(3) My approval of the contract documents in January allows the local authority to seek tenders for the civil works.
(4) The question of sanction for a loan to finance the scheme will not arise until a suitable tender has been accepted for its construction.
(5) The question of capital allocation for 1978 will also be determined at that time.
