My Department have from time to time been in touch with the Department of Education about this matter generally and I am aware that a great deal is being done to assist teachers and encourage the interest and involvement of pupils. Though I would like to see an increase in the time given to such matters, I am aware that it might have to be at the expense of other items in the school curricula and I must recognise that the degree of emphasis to be given to community and environmental projects in schools is primarily a matter for the Minister for Education.
Have the Department been in consultation with the Department of Education in any formal sense regarding the possibility of extending such studies?
