asked the Minister for Health if he will give details of the projects in the health sector on which the capital allocation for 1978 is to be spent.

The total of £20.5 million has been allocated among the various categories of institutions as follows:

The following are the major new projects approved for 1978:

MAJOR CAPITAL DEVELOPMENTS FOR 1978

EASTERN HEALTH BOARD AREA

General Hospitals

St. Colman's Hospital, Rathdrum:

—22 bed unit/day centre.

St. Vincent's Hospital, Athy:

—re-development and improvement works.

Coombe Maternity Hospital:

—improvements to kitchen.

Dr. Steevens's Hospital:

—new operating theatre suite.

Meath Hospital:

—improvements to operating theatre and wards.

James Connolly Memorial Hospital:

—adaptation works for units 11 and 12.

Jervis Street Hospital:

—provision of X-ray equipment.

Mater Hospital:

—extension to X-ray department.

—extension to Out-Patient and Casualty departments.

—roof repairs.

—electrical rewiring and fire alarm system.

National Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Dun Laoghaire:

—provision of new ward for spinal injury cases and new X-ray department.

Rotunda Hospital:

—new dining area for hospital staff.

—general development of facilities in new block.

Royal Hospital Donnybrook:

—general improvements including fire precautions.

Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital:

—improvements to Out-Patient and Casualty departments.

St. James's Hospital, Dublin:

—purchase of gamma camera and processor.

St. Vincent's Hospital, Elm Park:

—purchase of gamma camera and processor.

Simpson's Hospital, Dundrum:

—provision of additional beds.

Temple Street Children's Hospital:

—new operating theatre suite.

St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown:

—upgrading of mechanical services.

Psychiatric Hospitals

St. Brendan's Hospital, Dublin:

—provision of hostels in the area for discharged psychiatric patients.

—scheme of maintenance works and provision of a fire alarm system.

—general maintenance workshop for the health board institutions.

St. Loman's Hospital, Ballyowen:

—provision of an additional 23 beds for adult psychiatric patients.

St. Ita's Hospital, Portrane:

—reconstruction and improvements to male chronic block and conversion of houses for mentally handicapped.

St. John of God, Orwell Road:

—extension of residential facilities at the child guidance clinic.

Mental Handicap Centres

Eastern Health Board:

—provision of additional accommodation for severely handicapped children.

St. Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown:

—provision of a new 200 bed centre for the mentally handicapped.

Cheeverstown, Templeogue:

—provision of 154 day places and 130 residential places for mentally handicapped.

St. John of God, Islandbridge:

—provision of adult care unit.

St. Michael's House, Dublin:

—provision of new adult care centre at Belcamp.

—provision of a central hostel and two smaller local hostels (north and south city).

—replacement of day care unit at present located at Cheeverstown House.

Stewarts Hospital, Palmerstown:

—major development scheme.

Community Services:

—provision of health centres at Kilbarrack, Maynooth and Wicklow; also office accommodation at health centre, Coolock.

—provision of accommodation for special welfare cases at Harcourt Terrace, Dublin.

—provision of a Welfare Home at Harold's Cross, Dublin.

Other Facilities

St. Mary's School for Deaf Girls, Cabra:

—provision of 35 beds for multiple handicap cases.

—provision of residential accommodation for 100 girls.

St. Joseph's School for Deaf Boys, Cabra:

—provision of residential facilities for 130 boys.

St. Mary's School for the Blind, Merrion:

—provision of residential accommodation for pupils attending special primary school for the blind.

National Rehabilitation Board:

—grant for community workshops.

General Hospitals

County Hospital, Tullamore:

—provision of improved operating theatre facilities.

—provision of a mortuary and autopsy room.

Portlaoise County Hospital:

—provision of junior doctors' accommodation (10 flats).

St. Mary's Hospital, Mullingar.

—installation of lifts.

Psychialric Hospitals

St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar:

—upgrading of admission unit.

—provision of general stores and pharmacy.

—provision of a new recreation centre.

St. Fintan's Hospital, Portaloise:

—provision of stores.

—improvements to staff accommodation.

—provision of slaughter house and cold room.

Mental Handicap Centres

St. Mary's Delvin:

—provision of staff cafeteria.

—provision of ten-bed chalet for the mentally handicapped.

—provision of therapeutic pool.

Community Services:

—provision of health centre with office accommodation at Portlaoise.

Welfare Home Edenderry:

—provision of occupational facilities.

General Hospitals

Limerick Regional Hospital:

—planning for development.

—provision of X-ray equipment.

County Hospital, Ennis:

—provision of second operating theatre.

—provision of extensions to X-ray department.

Regional Orthopaedic Hospital, Croom:

—provision of additional operating theatre.

St. John's Hospital, Limerick:

—provision of improved Out-Patient department.

Barrington's Hospital, Limerick:

—provision of improved casualty facilities.

St. Joseph's Psychiatric Hospital, Limerick:

—provision of new 200 bed unit.

Community Services:

—provision of health centres at Dooradoyle and Ballynanty, Limerick.

St. Oliver Plunkett's, Dundalk:

—provision of new geriatric unit and day centre.

Navan County Hospital:

—improvements to Out-Patients' department.

—improvements to operating theatre.

Psychiatric Hospitals

St. Davnet's Hospital, Monaghan:

—provision of fire precautions.

Mental Handicap Centres

St. Mary's Drumcar:

—provision of two ten-bed chalets for the mentally handicapped.

—provision of improvements to mechanical and electrical services including the replacement of boilers.

—upgrading of existing unit.

—provision of new 20 bed unit for girls.

Community Services:

—provision of health clinic and offices at Dundalk.

—provision of Welfare Home, Dundalk.

NORTH WESTERN HEALTH BOARD AREA

General Hospitals

Letterkenny General Hospital:

—provision of 150 bed extension.

Sligo General Hospital:

—provision of new pathology laboratory.

Accommodation for the aged and chronic sick in County Donegal:

—this will involve projects at a number of centres which will be determined in consultation between the Health Board and the Department of Health.

General Hospitals

Ardkeen Hospital:

—development to provide obstetric, paediatric and out-patients' departments.

Wexford County Hospital:

—alterations to medical unit and provision of an acute psychiatric unit.

—extension to operating theatre.

—provision of water-tower.

Psychiatric Hospitals

St. Luke's Hospital, Clonmel:

—provision of improved central heating.

St. Senan's Hospital, Enniscorthy:

—major reconstruction work.

St. Patrick's, Kilkenny:

—provision of two ten-bed chalets for adults.

Mary Immaculate Training School, Carriglea, County Waterford:

—provision of two ten-bed chalets for adult handicapped persons.

Brothers of Charity, Belmont Park, Waterford:

—provision of three ten-bed chalets for adult handicapped persons.

—provision of a home for the aged in Kilkenny city.

—provision of new 350 bed hospital at Tralee.

—provision of new 50 bed extension.

—provision of new 30 bed extension.

—provision of a 9 bed extension.

Kenmare District Hospital:

—provision of a 10 bed extension.

Bantry County Hospital:

—provision of a 10 bed extension.

Hospital Laundry:

—provision of a new laundry to serve Cork City Hospitals.

St. Patrick's Home, Cork:

—provision of fire precautions and general improvements.

Victoria Hospital, Cork:

—replacement of X-ray equipment.

Mount Alvernia, Mallow:

—provision of improved water supply for fire fighting.

Our Lady's Hospital:

—installation of lifts in the Grey building.

—electrical rewiring of St. Ita's.

—electrical rewiring of St. Patrick's.

St. Finan's Hospital, Killarney:

—improvements of electrical services.

—installation of lifts.

Mental Handicap Centres

Cork Polio and After Care Association:

—provision of activities room (including 6 beds for severely handicapped children).

Our Lady of Good Counsel, Lota:

—provision of two 10 bed residential units.

St. Mary of the Angels, Beaufort:

—provision of 30 bed unit for spastics.

St. Patrick's, Upton:

—provision of 50 new places for the adult mentally handicapped.

County Kerry:

—provision for residential unit for adult mentally handicapped.

Community Services:

—provision of a community care office in Cork City.

General Hospitals

Galway Regional Hospital:

—provision of improved maternity facilities e.g. Out-Patient department, admission suite, delivery suite, and special neo-natal unit.
