asked the Minister for Labour if he will furnish details of the unemployment survey in Ballyfermot, Dublin, announced in the budget.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Unemployment Survey.
One of the proposed schemes presented to me by the Employment Action Team, and subsequently approved by the Government, related to a census of the Ballyfermot area. The proposal arose from discussions between the team and representatives of Ballyfermot Community Association. The team recommended that a grant be provided towards the cost of a census aimed at providing statistical information needed by the association's employment action group. It is estimated that the census will provide short-time employment for about 50 people at a cost of about £10,000.
As recommended by the team, I intend to have this census carefully monitored with a view to determining the possibilities for similar community-based surveys elsewhere.
I have arranged for contact to be made with the Ballyfermot Community Association and a meeting of interested parties is being arranged to discuss the details.
