Vol. 304 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal School.

31.

asked the Minister for Education when the extension of, and general repair to Keelogg's national school, Mountcharles, County Donegal, is likely to commence.

There is no application before my Department at present for the repair or extension of Keeloggs national school. The existing accommodation is regarded as adequate for the number of pupils in attendance.

32.

asked the Minister for Education the amounts paid by his Department for heating and maintenance grants in respect of Keeloggs national school, Mountcharles, County Donegal, for each of the past two years.

It is not the practice to provide detailed information in relation to grants paid to individual schools. I may add, however, that the grant is calculated as from the beginning of the school year 1977-78 on the basis of £8 per pupil from the Department, provided there is a corresponding local contribution of £2 per pupil. Prior to that date the rates were £6 and £1.50.

Would the Minister confirm whether such information would be available to a Member of this House if he wished to obtain it?

No problem at all, but I think the Deputy will appreciate the board of management might not be too happy.

I accept that.

If large numbers of children are involved who is basically responsible for obtaining the £2 per child? Is it the parents' body or the manager?

The local board of management. It is their responsibility.

Question No. 33 postponed.
