Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Navan Unemployment.

471.

asked the Taoiseach the total number of people currently unemployed in Navan, County Meath; the percentage this represents of the total available workforce; and if he will provide comparative figures for the country as a whole.

The total number of persons on the live register at Navan employment office on 24 February 1978 was 813. With regard to the percentage of the total workforce which this represents, the only relevant information available relates to the ratio of the number of insured persons on the live register to the total insured workforce, excluding the agriculture, fishing and domestic service sectors. The most recent date for which this latter information is available is 18 November 1977 and the appropriate figures for insured persons registered at the Navan office on that date were 701 and 3,973—thus the percentage of all insured persons who were on the live register was 17.6 per cent. The corresponding percentage for the State as a whole at that time was 11.3—78,850 out of a total of 696,083.
