Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Howth Harbour Improvement.

483.

asked the Minister for Fisheries the length, width, depth and direction from a median line across the entrance of the harbour of the approach channel in the proposed improvements to Howth Harbour, County Dublin.

A dredged approach channel is to be incorporated in the improvement works of Howth Harbour.

This channel will be 60 metres in width at the entrance to the harbour but it will increase in width as it proceeds seawards until it reaches a width of 170 metres at a distance of 260 metres, approximately, from the harbour entrance.

At this point the natural sea bed will be at a depth of —3.66 metres O.D. and this depth will be maintained for the full length of the approach channel into the fishery harbour basin where it will drop to a depth of —4.57 metres O.D. for a distance of about 130 metres.

At the entrance to the harbour the centre line of this channel will bear 339º but this will gradually veer to 360º as the channel proceeds seawards.
