Vol. 304 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Heating, Cleaning and Maintenance.

8.

asked the Minister for Education whether it is in order for primary schools management boards to deduct from moneys allocated by the Department or collected locally for heating, cleaning and maintenance, and pay to a managerial association sums representing a levy to such association based on the number of pupils in the school.

Such deductions have not been sanctioned.

An application from the managerial association concerned is under consideration at present.

Can the Minister offer some advice to the members of management boards who may be aware of such a practice as to what they should do to bring it to his attention and does the Minister propose to ask for accounts in such a form as will make it clear to him whether or not such deductions have been made?

As my reply indicated, I am meeting the specific managerial body in this matter in the very near future and the whole matter will be clarified then.

Will the Minister state his attitude to the application by the managerial association to make such deductions from money supposed to be for heating and cleaning and state whether or not he will forbid this practice?

I shall be in consultation with the people concerned and, when we have consulted, I will be in a position then, if the Deputy puts down a question, to tell him the result of these consultations.

The Minister will be in trouble if he lets them.

The Minister is always in trouble anyway.
