asked the Minister for Education the total number of each type of primary school viz., one teacher, two teacher et cetera, in the country; and the numbers of each that have basic facilities for physical education instruction, such as surfaced area with a minimum of equipment.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report a tabular statement giving particulars of national schools classified by teacher numbers.

It is not possible from the records of the Department to provide in the form requested by the Deputy a breakdown of the facilities available in schools for physical education.

It may be stated, however, that in recent years provision has been generally made in the planning of all schools for paved play spaces, ball courts and, except in the case of smaller schools, general purpose rooms, and where such amenities are requested in connection with older schools their provision is given such favourable consideration as conditions may warrant.
