Mr. Gilhawley

asked the Minister for Agriculture the names and addresses of all estates in the possession of the Land Commission in County Sligo; and the estates it is proposed to allot during 1978.

Mr. Gilhawley

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the Crofton estate at Cloonagh, Beltra, County Sligo, was offered to the Land Commission by the owner and a price agreed on, that local congests were most anxious to buy this land and if if he will state the present position in relation to the acquisition of this estate, indicating, in view of the stated position why the Land Commission are not proceeding with the acquisition.

Proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of some 114 acres of the property referred to were instituted by the Land Commission in July 1976. While there was no objection to the acquisition of the lands price negotiations proved unsuccessful and in default of agreement the price was determined by the appeal tribunal. The Land Commission considered that the price so fixed was such as to make the acquisition of the lands inexpedient and accordingly they withdrew from the proceedings in July 1977 under the provisions of section 24, Land Act, 1927.
