Vol. 304 No. 9

Written Answers. - Release of Trained Teacher.

370.

asked the Minister for Education if it is permissible for a board of management in a certain school (details supplied) to release a trained teacher from employment on five days' notice, and to employ an unqualified substitute for a period of upward of four months before employing a fully qualified replacement.

A board of management may, for good and sufficient reason, release a teacher from the obligation to give three months' notice of intent to determine her employment in the school. Where the school authorities are unable to obtain the services of a qualified national teacher to fill a vacancy on the staff of the school the services of an unqualified person may be accepted for a brief period. It is understood that a qualified teacher will take up duty when the school re-opens after Easter.
