Vol. 304 No. 10

Written Answers. - University Colleges Capital Allocation.

328.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give a breakdown of the £4.3 million allocated for capital expenditure to the university colleges; why it is almost double the amount spent in 1977; the new projects being commenced under this heading in 1978; the total estimated cost of each project; and if any estimate has yet been made of the requirements under this heading in 1979 and 1980.

The provision is allocated as follows: University College, Dublin, Faculty of General Agriculture, £2,252,000 and University College, Cork, Faculty of Dairy Science, £2,075,000. The increase over 1977 is intended to meet the expected cost in 1978 of new faculty buildings which are under construction at each university since 1976. The major part of the cost of these buildings falls to be met in 1978. No new major building projects are being commenced this year and, while forecast estimates for 1979 and 1980 have been made in the normal way, no new commitments have been entered into.
