I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report a tabular statement showing the information requested by the Deputy. As is the normal practice a programme of works on fishery harbours and landing places has been drawn up for execution in 1978 and moneys have been provisionally allocated for individual schemes.
It must be borne in mind that a harbour work programme is always liable to alterations and delays due to many factors over which this Department have no control such as inclement weather, date of commencement of works, non-availability of county council contributions, contracting problems and the capacity of the Office of Public Works to carry out a programme. In the circumstances no assurance can be given at this stage that the proposed programme of works will be completed this year.
The sum of £1,500,000 has been voted under the subheads C3 and C5 of the Fisheries Vote for 1978. A sum in excess of this amount has been provisionally allocated to the proposed works so that even in the event of unforeseen delays the total amount voted can be expended.
