asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the Cappagh telephone exchange, County Waterford will be made automatic, in view of the fact that (i) the site has been secured and the underground cables laid for the past two years and (ii) there are over two hundred subscribers attached to this exchange which is one of the last in west Waterford awaiting automation.

(Dublin South-Central): Cappagh exchange cannot be converted to automatic working until the Dungarvan exchange building has been extended and additional equipment has been installed there to switch calls for a number of surrounding exchanges including Cappagh. The building extension work which has been held up by a local problem will be undertaken as soon as practicable. It is hoped that Cappagh exchange will be converted to automatic working in about three years.
