Separate figures for cars and commercial vehicles are not shown in the returns furnished to my Department by the assemblers. The returns show that 37,700 motor vehicles were assembled in 1975, 47,800 in 1976 and 51,300 in 1977 representing 63 per cent, 62 per cent and 57 per cent respectively of the total number of new vehicles registered in the three years mentioned.
