Vol. 306 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Test.

275.

asked the Minister for the Environment if it is possible for the owner of a three-wheel motor car to undergo a driving test in such a vehicle, (a) in Ireland, and (b) in other EEC countries; and if this is not possible in Ireland, if he proposes to amend the regulation in this instance.

In this country, a class C driving licence is required for driving a three-wheeled motor car, and this class also includes the normal private car with four wheels, as well as light goods vehicles. There is a general requirement in connection with the driving test that the test must be conducted in a vehicle representative of the licensing class and, in the case of class C, this involves the use of the normal private car with four wheels. I have no proposals for altering these requirements.

I understand that there is no standard practice among the EEC member states in their treatment of the three-wheeled motor car for driver-licensing and the driving test.
