National expenditure required to match social fund grants has been on a £ for £ basis up to and including 1977. In respect of approvals in 1978 or later, the rate of social fund intervention is being increased by 10 per cent for operations in certain community regions, including Ireland.

asked the Minister for Labour the approximate EEC and national expenditure in the Donegal area in respect of European Social Fund grants of £3.6 million, £4.0 million, £4.6 million and £8.2 million from 1974 to 1977.

: Of the amounts of total payments from the European Social Fund quoted by the Deputy the approximate amounts relating to operations in County Donegal in the years concerned were as follows: 1974, £130,000; 1975, £180,000; 1976, £240,000; 1977, £350,000.

The amounts of matching national expenditure were the same as those of the fund payments, but were not necessarily incurred in the same year as the relevant fund payments were received.
