Vol. 308 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Dublin School.

521.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state, in relation to the proposed new Rathdown primary school at Balally/Moreen, County Dublin, (i) if the site has been acquired by or on behalf of the patron; (ii) if planning permission for the new school has been applied for; (iii) if plans for the new school have been passed by his Department; (iv) if a grant for the building of the school has been sanctioned by his Department, and, if so the date on which it was sanctioned; and when he expects the school to come into operation; and (v) if there will be sufficient places in existing schools in the area to cater for the children of primary school age until the new school is open.

I understand (i) that arrangements are in train for the acquisition of a site for the proposed new national school at Balally, Sandford, County Dublin. A statement granting the owner's permission to enter on the site for the purpose of erecting the school has been received in the Department; (ii) that the chairman's architect has applied for planning permission for the new school; (iii) that plans prepared by the architect have been approved by my Department; (iv) that a grant was sanctioned towards the cost of the project on 5 October 1978. It is not possible at this stage to say when the school will come into operation; (v) the question of temporary accommodation for children of school age pending the erection of the permanent school is one, in the first instance, for the managerial authority.

Any application in this regard will receive immediate consideration in my Department.
