asked the Minister for Finance the numbers of persons, at the latest date for which figures are available, earning (a) less than £6; (b) £6-10; (c) £10-20; (d) £20-30; (e) £30-40; (f) £40-50; (g) £50-60; (h) £60-70; (i) £70-80; (j) £80-90; (k) £90-£100; and (i) over £100 per week.

The only information available regarding the distribution of personal incomes is that which has been collected in the course of the administration of the income tax code and it excludes income which is not liable for tax. The latest published income distribution statistics relate to the year of assessment 1975-76 and are contained in pages 166 to 175 of the annual report of the Revenue Commissioners for the year ended 31 December 1976 copies of which are available in the Library.

Data in relation to 1976-77 are shown in the following table which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report. The information contained in the table is subject to the same limitations as are outlined in pages 163 and 164 of the forementioned annual report.
