Vol. 308 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waterford Cablevision Service.

159.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will grant a temporary licence to Waterford Cablevision Ltd. to relay the TV signal presently being received at the Minaun, Cheekpoint, to their transmitter at Rathfadden, until such time as they provide the necessary cable.

There is no statutory provision under which I could grant a licence, temporary or otherwise, to the company for this purpose.

160.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make a statement on the continuation of the Waterford cablevision service, which brings multi-channel viewing to receivers in Waterford city and suburbs.

For a number of years Waterford Cablevision Ltd. have been providing a multi-channel cable television service in Waterford city in accordance with the terms of a licence issued by my Department. In recent months the company has been rebroadcasting British television signals received at Minaun, Cheekpoint, to their licensed aerial site at Rathfadden without authority. They were instructed to cease rebroadcasting immediately but are of course free to provide a service in accordance with the terms of the licence.
