Vol. 308 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mallow Hospital Appointment.

3.

asked the Minister for Health if he will sanction the appointment of a permanent radiologist at Mallow Hospital, County Cork.

Comhairle na nOspidéal is responsible for regulating the number and type of consultant medical posts, which would include posts of radiologist.

Under an arrangement agreed to between the comhairle and the Southern Health Board, radiology services in Mallow Hospital are at present provided by radiologists employed by the Southern Health Board who are based in St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork.

Would the Minister accept that there is dissatisfaction with the present position, that a particular problem obtains as regards access to the service in Cork today because it is so difficult in view of the type of roads that exist between Cork and Mallow and in view of the fact that the services where they do exist, exist on the far perimeter of the city? Would the Minister not look at that situation?

This is a matter for the Southern Health Board, but I shall certainly have it looked into further.
