The Inter-Departmental Committee on the organisation of the functions of Government at sub-national levels was reconstituted on 2 May 1978 with the following mandate:
to examine and report on the appropriate organisation and structures for the planning, co-ordination and discharge of the functions of Government at sub-national levels.
and as an interim step:
to consider specially and make an interim report within two months on the appropriate organisational arrangements for the co-ordination of regional planning and development by the Department of Economic Planning and Development.
The committee submitted a report on its interim remit and this is now being considered. Meanwhile, the Committee is addressing itself to the remainder of its remit.
