Vol. 309 No. 6

Written Answers. - Balally (Dublin) School.

398.

asked the Minister for Education if there is overcrowding in St. Olaf's national school, Balally, Dublin 14; if children in that school are being taught in corridors rather than in classrooms; if so, the number of children; if extra temporary classrooms are required; and the number of extra temporary classrooms which will be provided and when they will be provided.

I understand that there are normal size classes in St. Olaf's national school, Balally, Dublin 14. There are however, three classes being accommodated in the general purposes rooms at the schools. Extra curricular classes—speech and drama—each of half hour duration per week are held in a corridor area (57 sq. ft.) in the boys school. In a similar area in the girls school, dancing classes for infants are held weekly after school hours.

There are proposals for a new school at Rathdown, Balally, and it would accordingly appear that the provision of extra temporary accommodation at St. Olaf's would not be warranted.
