asked the Minister for Education the national schools in which new teaching posts were created for the school year 1978-79; the national schools where new teaching posts will be created in the year 1979-80; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The schools in which new posts have been or will be created during the 1978-79 school year are those which (a) have increased enrolments or (b) benefit from the improvements in pupil-teacher ratio already announced or (c) benefit from the increased allocation of remedial teachers. As regards (b), it should be noted that the improvement in pupil-teacher ratio in schools of 15 teachers and more took effect from 1 July 1978 while the improvement as it affects 9-14 teacher schools will take effect as from 1 January 1979.

No decision has yet been made as to the manner in which the additional teachers becoming available in June 1979 will be allocated to schools.
