I am not in a position at this stage to give any indication of the road grants to be allocated in 1979.
In 1978, I allocated grants to Galway County Council totalling £300,000 and £150,000 for national primary and national secondary road improvements respectively. I allocated a special grant of £45,000 for improvement works on a main road bridge. In addition I allocated a general (block) grant amounting to £447,000 to supplement the provision from Galway County Council's own resources for the improvement and maintenance of main roads and the improvement of county roads. It is a matter for Galway County Council to determine the proportion of this grant to be applied to improvement works on main roads.
