Vol. 310 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Galway National School Transfer.

322.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received a request from the parents of children who were formerly attending Newtown national school, County Galway, and have not accepted the decision to transfer to Moycullen national school, for a meeting with him; and if he will accede to this request.

In my reply to Question No. 442 on 11 October 1978 I mentioned that I met a deputation of parents from the Newtown area in June 1978 who put before me their views on the retention of their school.

Officials of my Department met a deputation of parents in September 1978 and I met another deputation from the area.

323.

asked the Minister for Education if he will carry out an enumeration of the population of primary school age in the townlands formerly served by Newtown national school, County Galway, with a view to establishing the extent of the need for a primary school in the area, and in particular the needs of Irish-speaking parents; if he will take appropriate action to meet these needs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All the relevant educational facts about the parish of Moycullen are known to my Department. The needs of Irish-speaking parents are my special concern.

With your permission I wish to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of any one or all of Question Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 11 on last Thursday's Order Paper.

I will communicate with the Deputy during the afternoon.

I propose, also with your permission, to raise on the Adjournment question Nos. 2, 3 and 4 on today's Order Paper.

I will communicate with the Deputy.
