Vol. 310 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Group Water Schemes.

22.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider increasing the unit grant per house towards group water schemes in disadvantaged areas.

The bulk of group schemes are in fact in counties comprised in the disadvantaged areas. A substantial increase in the maximum State grants payable for the provision of group water supply schemes was announced by the Government at the end of 1977. The revised grants structure applies to schemes commenced on or after the 1 November 1977 and provides for grants from my Department up to £300 or two-thirds of the cost per house, whichever is the less. I do not propose to increase these grants further at this stage.

Where group schemes are located in Gaeltacht areas and qualify for additional grant assistance from Roinn na Gaeltachta, the maximum combined grants total £450 per house or 85 per cent of the cost, whichever is the less.
