Vol. 310 No. 8

Written Answers. - Meath Coast Erosion.

216.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a recommendation from Meath County Council in relation to coast erosion on the Gormanston, Laytown, Bettystown and Mornington areas of County Meath; the action it is proposed to take on the matter; and if the county council can be authorised to carry out immediate remedial work where such action is urgently needed.

The Meath County Council lodged with the Commissioners of Public Works on 16 November 1978 an application under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, for a coast protection scheme at the areas mentioned. Because of prior commitments it is not possible to say when the preliminary engineering examination under the Act will be carried out. Authorisation by the commissioners is not necessary in the case of a local authority itself undertaking protection works but if interference with foreshore is involved consent of the Minister for Tourism and Transport is required.
