Vol. 311 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Museum Wiring.

20.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is fully satisfied, especially from a safety point of view, regarding the electrical wiring in the National Museum.

The electric wiring in the National Museum is in need of renewal. Contract documents for the rewiring of the premises and the provision of improved lighting are almost ready and tenders will be invited at an early date.

Is the Minister in a position to give an assurance to the House that none of the objects belonging to the national collection are in any way at risk as a result of the current state of electrical installation?

This is a matter of renewal and I am not saying that there are any risks involved.

Can the Minister, who is responsible in this connection, state that the objects are not at risk as a result of the present state of the wiring?

Not to my knowledge.

Can the Minister ensure that the work will be done without delay? Can he give us any indication when the work will be commenced?

I expect the work to start early in March.
