asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport how it is proposed to provide better transport facilities within the country and to accelerate the Government's programme of investment as a result of a transfer of resources, consequent to our entry to EMS, as indicated by the Taoiseach to the Dáil on 21 December 1978.

asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if, in detailing the Taoiseach's commitment as outlined in the Dáil Debate on the EMS on 21 December 1978 to accelerate the Government investment programme, including the provision of better transport facilities, he will indicate: (1) the transport facilities which will now be improved as a result of the transfer of resources from our entry to the EMS; (2) the public transport facilities which will now be improved as a result of the transfer of resources from our entry to the EMS; and (3) if any of this new source of capital funds will be used by CIE to provide for the electrification and modernisation of the Dublin suburban rail system, and, if so, the precise timetable of commencement and completion of the proposed works.
With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 58 together.
As the Tánaiste has indicated in reply to an earlier question from the Deputy, the subject of EMS funds will be dealt with in the forthcoming Budget statement and it would accordingly be inappropriate for me to anticipate that statement.
